The Jordan Compact at a Crossroads
The Jordan Compact, a landmark agreement between Jordan and the EU, has reshaped the aid response to the Syrian refugee crisis. By providing trade incentives, the Compact has enabled Jordan to host over 1.3 million refugees, offer employment opportunities, and contain migration into Europe. However, six years later, as geopolitical priorities shift, the Compact's legacy has become more complex. Reevaluating the Compact now underscores the need for more inclusive, refugee-centered solutions that go beyond border externalization policies and prioritize dignity and empowerment.
